Our Vision At Solid Rock

  • To see Solid Rock as a ministry called alongside parents to help teach & exhort youth to live according to Biblical standards.
  • To see Solid Rock become a sanctuary or safe place for young people who want more of God and want to express their love for Him.
  • To see Solid Rock members become a significant force for change in the community and the schools they represent.
  • To see Solid Rock become a source of growth for the Church. To see individual students become mature believers, involved & serving both within and outside the church.

Matt's Messages

Jesus, The Great I AM

Quick Recap of last week…

Who does Jesus say that He is?? Let's look at the "I AM" statements of Jesus and how it relates to us.
The "I AM" statements are found throughout the Gospel of John. (Turn to John 6)
Jesus Says:

  1. I AM the Bread of Life
  2. I AM the Light of the World
  3. I AM the Sheep Gate (the Door)
  4. I AM the Good Shepherd
  5. I AM the Resurrection and the Life
  6. I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life
  7. I AM

I AM the Bread of Life – John 6:30-35
(quick look at structure of Jesus' I AM statements)

  1. In the Greek when someone says "I am" the word they use is Ego (eg-o') – personality or identity
  2. The Greek has another word that means "I am." It's Eimi (i-mee') – to exist
  3. Jesus used both when making this statement – Ego Eimi the Bread of life / I AM I AM the Bread of Life
  4. Compare to Exodus 3:14 – Greek Translators used same structure

What is Jesus saying about Himself??
Moses didn't give the Mana, but God did. It came down from Heaven. Jesus is saying that He is sent from Heaven, He's the true, life giving Bread.
Jesus makes it clear again in v. 38 where he says "I have come down from Heaven."

Who Is Jesus pt.1

*note: following is the outline I used for my message.

How do you get to know someone?? (allow for students to respond)
Over the next few weeks we're going to take a close look at who Jesus is and what that means to us.

When I meet someone new I try to get to know them by asking questions. (list general questions)
We can also know a lot about someone by looking at their family, culture and geography
For us, as Americans, it's a little different. We live in such a mixed society and culture that people move all the time and people from all over the world come here to live. This has given us a mixed and mashed culture/society over our 200+ year history.

Skin Deep

How important is it for you to look good on the outside? What is real beauty??
Is it your hair, your clothes, your smile? The way you walk, the way you talk?
What is it that makes you “beautiful?”

1 Samuel 16:7 - Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.
“But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance or at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (AMP)

Share story of walking “cool” in middle school ~ In junior high I was more worried about how people saw me and how I looked from the outside than anything else.  It started to affect how I acted and lived.
