Last week we discussed the truth and validity of God’s Word. We talked about why it’s so important to understand that God’s Word (the Bible) is 100% true. “The Case For Christ” by Lee Strobel is a great book that lays out evidence for the validity of God’s Word, especially concerning the New Testament.
Another way to see that God’s Word is true is to see what it says about the world around us.
Jeremiah 17:9 – “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked”
The Amplified Bible puts it this way “The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick!”
Why does Jeremiah say this?? Why are our hearts deceitful??

Where did this come from?
Genesis 3:1-9 – Fall of man
God gave dominion of His creation to Adam. Once Adam sinned, he forfeited his rule to satan. Hence, the whole world fell into satan’s hands and was cursed as a result. Death entered in as well.
What were Adam and Eve’s immediate reaction to their sin?
- They tried to cover themselves
- They hid from God
- They blamed someone else
Does this sound familiar? We see that exact same thing in the world today. We see it in others, and in ourselves. (Share a story about getting into trouble as a kid).
When Adam sinned, he separated the human race from God.
Romans 3:23 – all have fallen short
Romans 5:12,14 – by Adam all have sinned
The exciting news is that God has redeemed us and given us a way back into His presence.
Romans 5:17-21 – by Christ we are righteous
Romans 5:8 – While we were still sinners, Christ died for us
What does this mean to you?? Maybe you know all this already and you’ve been tuning me out…
If you know it, are you sharing it? Do your friends know it? (share story of witnessing at park)
Challenge: Find at least one friend that doesn’t know this truth and share it with them.
