Note: this is an outline of Matt's message, not a full script
Did you face the Challenge? (Find at least one friend that doesn’t know this truth and share it with them.)
Hebrews 4:12 – The Word of God is living and active… Let the Holy Spirit open your eyes to God’s Word
Who is Jesus? Was He a prophet, a wise teacher, perhaps a crazy person making outrageous claims?
In his first recorded letter to Timothy, Paul refers to Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords (1 Tim 6:12-15)
Greek: Lord (kurios, koo-ree-os, supreme authority) or lords (kurieuo, koo-ree-yoo-o, to rule, have dominion over). King (basileus, bas-il-yooce, a sovereign, foundation of power) of kings (basileuo, bas-il-yoo-o, to rule, king)
John 1:1
1. In the beginning was the Word – Jesus is eternal
2. And the Word was with God – Jesus exists with God, He is part of the Godhead
3. And the Word was God – Jesus is God in essence, He is divine and has all the characteristics of deity
Not only is Jesus 100% God, He was 100% man as well.
He was born the same way you were (minus the hospital and nurses), He grew physically and mentally, Hey ate, drank and slept. He understood human need an emotion because He was human.
Hebrews 4:14-15 and Hebrews 2:18 also show us that Jesus was tempted in every way a person could be
Jesus walked a “mile in our shoes” … I was once where you’re at…
Jesus is out example as believers, He is our standard (what is a standard?)
1 Peter 2:21 – Christ suffered for us, leaving us an example to follow
It costs to follow Christ – John 15:18-19
What does this all come down to?? Last week we talked about man’s sin and our need for a savior
Jesus is that Savior! God sacrificed His Son for our sins. He was crucified, buried and rose from the dead conquering sin and death so we could live in right standing with God forever as His children.
Do you know what you believe? Do you know where you’re going when you die?
